Privacy Policy
- You don’t need an account, and we don’t ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your location is used on your phone to sort places by distance. It’s never sent to us or stored.
- Your saved places and home masjid stay on your phone.
- No ads, no tracking across apps or websites, no analytics tools, and we never sell your data.
This policy covers the Local Muslims app for iPhone and Android and the website at localmuslims.com. “We” means Local Muslims.
What stays on your phone
- Saved places. Restaurants, masjids and businesses you save.
- Your home masjid. The masjid you choose to see first on the Home screen.
These are kept only in the app’s storage on your device (or your browser’s storage on the website). We can’t see them. Deleting the app, or clearing the website’s data in your browser, removes them.
Location
The app asks for your location only when you tap “Near me”, and only while you’re using it. It asks for approximate location, not your exact spot, and rounds it to about 1 km before using it. Your phone uses it to sort places by distance, show nearby masjids and work out prayer times. It isn’t saved and isn’t sent to us. You can turn it off at any time in your phone’s settings, and the app still works by city.
What leaves your phone, and where it goes
- App updates. The app checks with Expo, the service we use to deliver the app, for new versions. Like any internet request, this shares your IP address, the app version, whether you’re on iPhone or Android, and a random ID for this install that Expo uses to count updates. That ID isn’t linked to you.
- Photos. Some listing photos load from Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia sees your IP address and which photo was loaded, under the Wikimedia privacy policy.
- Directions, calls and websites. When you tap Directions, Call or a website, the app opens Apple Maps or Google Maps, your phone app or your browser. For directions, the destination is passed along. If you plan a trip from “My location”, your approximate starting point (rounded to about 1 km) is passed too. Those apps follow their own privacy policies.
- App stores. If you’ve allowed it in your phone’s settings, Apple or Google may share anonymous crash reports and download statistics with us.
- Sharing. Sharing a place uses your phone’s own share sheet. We don’t see what you share or who you share it with.
- The website. Two providers run it: Cloudflare (localmuslims.com and our DNS) and Expo (the web app). They keep standard server logs (IP address, the page asked for, browser type and time) to keep the site secure and working. The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ad trackers.
What we don’t do
- We don’t show ads or use advertising or tracking tools.
- We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We don’t sell or rent anyone’s information.
Business and masjid listings
Listings come from public sources, from owners and from the community. If you run a listed business or masjid and want something corrected or removed, email hello@localmuslims.com.
Children
Local Muslims isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. The app doesn’t ask anyone for personal information.
Changes
We plan to add accounts and community posts later. Before that launches, we’ll update this policy and tell you in the app what changes. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
